Privacy policy

Who we are

Daily Orbs is operated by DAILY ORBS INC., a corporation incorporated in Ontario, Canada (Ontario corporation number 1001755846). DAILY ORBS INC. is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. In this policy and the terms below, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to DAILY ORBS INC.

Your answers and play history

You can play without giving us your name or email address. We assign your browser a random player identifier so we can recognize returning play and connect activity across visits. This identifies a browser profile, rather than necessarily a particular person or physical device.

We record what you submit or click in puzzles, including correct and incorrect answers, how they were scored, results, ratings, and play timing. These records are associated with your player identifier and individual visits. Your browser also stores saved progress, previous play, ratings and preferences.

These records help us preserve your play and understand how a result was reached. If you sign in by email, we can associate records from that browser, including earlier play, with your email address. Broader account-linked history is planned; the history available to you depends on the features currently offered.

Improving the puzzles

We use answers, results, ratings and feedback to find mistakes, improve accepted answers, balance difficulty and decide which puzzles to make. We also study how people use the website, test changes and investigate technical problems.

Answer patterns can suggest interests, familiarity with different places or cultures, and broad age ranges. These are estimates, not verified facts about someone. We currently use these insights to understand our audience and make better puzzles.

We do not currently sell answer histories or audience profiles derived from them, or use those records to target advertising. If we introduce a materially different use, we will explain it and obtain any consent required before that use begins.

Email, feedback and technical information

If you use email sign-in, request updates or join our testing programme, we collect your email address and the information needed to provide that feature. Giving us an email address for sign-in does not by itself subscribe you to marketing emails.

When you send feedback, we receive your message and relevant context, such as the puzzle or page, browser information and player identifier. If you are signed in, your email address may be associated with the message. Email correspondence also includes the information you choose to send us.

We collect technical and usage information such as browser type, language, screen and viewport size, time zone, available connection information, referral and campaign information, pages visited within Daily Orbs, feature-test assignments and errors. Requests to the website expose an IP address to the services delivering it. We use request information to estimate country, not precise GPS location. Our email signup form also records an IP address and browser and referral information when used.

Cookies and browser storage

We use browser storage to remember your player identifier, game progress, ratings, preferences, tutorial state and feature-test assignments. Email sign-in uses a cookie to keep you signed in. Advertising services may use their own cookies and similar technologies, as explained below.

You can clear site data or restrict cookies in your browser. Doing so may remove locally saved progress, sign you out or cause the browser to be recognized as a new player. It does not delete information already stored on our servers. If you want us to locate and delete guest records, contact us before clearing site data where possible, so we can help identify the right records.

We do not currently change our own collection automatically in response to the browser's legacy “Do Not Track” setting.

Advertising and ad-free accounts

Daily Orbs includes Google AdSense technology. When ads are served, Google and other advertising vendors may place or read cookies, use web beacons, and collect IP addresses, browser identifiers and information about visits to this and other websites. Google and its partners may use this information to deliver, personalize and measure ads, subject to applicable consent and privacy choices.

Read how Google uses information from partner sites. You can manage Google ad personalization through Google Ads Settings and opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through YourAdChoices. These choices do not necessarily remove all ads or stop processing needed to deliver and measure them.

We plan to offer an ad-free option through a Daily Orbs account. Details will be shown when that option becomes available. Ad-free play concerns advertising; we still need information to provide the game and any history you choose to keep. You do not need to create an account to contact us or exercise applicable privacy rights.

Service providers and sharing

We use providers to host the website, run our servers, store records and deliver sign-in emails. Our infrastructure includes Vercel, Railway and Resend. We also load fonts from Google. Providers receive information needed for their services; advertising providers' collection is described above.

Information may be processed outside your country, where privacy laws may differ and local authorities may have lawful access. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, those requirements apply to our use of providers. You can contact us for information about where your data is processed and the safeguards that apply.

We may disclose information where required by law or reasonably necessary to address fraud, security incidents or legal claims. If ownership of Daily Orbs changes, relevant records may transfer with the service, subject to applicable law and notice of material changes to their use.

How long we keep records

Play records do not currently have a fixed automatic expiry date. They can be kept over the long term to preserve previous play and support ongoing puzzle evaluation. Our retention criteria are whether information is still needed for the feature or purpose it serves, the detail needed for that purpose, and any applicable legal obligations. A lasting answer history may need individual submissions; other uses may need only summaries or anonymous statistics.

Email, feedback and technical records are kept according to their continuing use for the relevant feature, correspondence, troubleshooting, security or legal requirements. We may reduce the detail we retain as those needs change.

You can request deletion. Deleting play records can affect the history available to you. If an exception requires us to retain certain information, we will explain the reason. Clearing browser storage or allowing a sign-in link to expire does not automatically delete server records.

Your rights and requests

Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have rights to access or receive a copy of personal information, correct it, request deletion, restrict or object to certain uses, withdraw consent, or receive a portable copy. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Some rights depend on the purpose and legal basis for the processing.

To make a request, email john@dailyorbs.com. We may need to verify that the records belong to you. Guest records may require additional steps to identify the browser involved. We respond within applicable legal time limits and explain any exceptions. You may also complain to your local privacy regulator; you do not have to contact us first.

Where EU or UK data-protection law applies, the legal basis depends on the purpose: providing a requested game, account or history service where processing is necessary for that service; legitimate interests in improving and protecting Daily Orbs where those interests are not overridden by your rights; consent for uses that require it; and compliance with legal obligations. A legitimate interest does not replace consent where consent is required for tracking. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests, including related profiling, by contacting us.

Where applicable US state law provides them, your rights may also include opting out of a sale of personal information, sharing for cross-context advertising or other targeted advertising, and appealing a decision on your request. You can contact us about these choices or an appeal. Exercising a privacy right does not, by itself, result in unlawful discrimination.

Children

Daily Orbs is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. Please do not provide an email address or other personal details if you are under 13. If you believe we have collected a child's personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate steps, including deletion where required. Any higher age or parental-consent requirement under applicable law continues to apply.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the game, our providers or our practices change. We will show the updated date and give appropriate notice of material changes. If a new use requires consent, updating this page or continuing to play is not a substitute for that consent.

Terms of use

Playing Daily Orbs

Daily Orbs provides trivia and puzzles for personal enjoyment. These terms are between you and DAILY ORBS INC. and apply to your use of the service. You may play, share results using the game's sharing features, and link to our pages.

Please do not disrupt the service, attempt to access someone else's account or private records, bypass access restrictions, or submit unlawful, abusive or infringing material. We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address misuse or protect the service.

Accounts and features

Keep sign-in links private and contact us if you believe someone has gained unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account. Features may depend on whether you are signed in, participating in testing, or using an option offered at the time.

Any future paid option will have its price and relevant conditions explained before you choose it. These terms do not authorize us to charge you for a subscription you have not selected.

Content and feedback

Daily Orbs content, software and branding belong to their respective owners. Third-party materials remain subject to their applicable licences and rights. Playing the game does not transfer ownership of its content. Nothing here limits uses permitted by law.

If you send feedback, corrections or puzzle suggestions, you allow us to use them to operate and improve Daily Orbs without an obligation to pay you, unless we agree otherwise. Please submit only material you are entitled to share. This permission does not replace the privacy protections described above.

Availability and responsibility

We work to keep the game available and its content accurate, but interruptions, mistakes and lost progress can occur. Puzzles, scoring and features may change, including to correct an error. Please tell us when something looks wrong.

To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided as available, without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability, error-free content or permanent storage of every result. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the service to the extent the law allows that limitation. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

External websites and advertisements have their own terms and privacy practices. Including a link or advertisement does not mean we endorse or guarantee the third party's service.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service changes. We will show the updated date and provide appropriate notice of material changes. Any additional agreement required by law will be obtained separately.
